Rules for SSAC - 18B Armored Enemy

The Scorekeeper last approved scores for this shoot on: 6/5/18

Shoot Begins: Thursday, March 1, 2018
Shoot Ends: Thursday, May 31, 2018
Scores must be Submitted by: Thursday, June 7, 2018 and within 30 days of being shot.

Rules:

This shoot is intended to simulate shooting at a field of enemies in armor, who don’t go down after the first successful hit. It is shot on the Ferrara rings - steel rings 12”, 10”, 8”, 6”, 4”, and 2” in diameter, frequently available from craft stores where they’re sold for macrame. If you take down an enemy in an end by hitting 3 or more times, you next shoot at a “more distant” (smaller) enemy; if you fail to take him down (1 or fewer hits), you next shoot at a “closer” (larger) one.

Please read the SSAC General Rules, as these apply to all SSAC shoots. Below are the additional rules for this specific shoot.

Target:

  • Ferrara Rings - ie brass/steel macrame rings in the following diameters 12", 10", 8", 6", 4", 2" (30cm, 25cm, 20cm, 15cm, 10cm, 5cm)
  • Paper Rings - In the case that you don’t have access to the Ferrara rings, rings of the appropriate diameters, circles drawn as 3/16” thick lines (approximately the width of a normal felt-tip marker) on poster board may be substituted. In this case, if an arrow breaks through the outside of the drawn line it is considered a MISS, as a similar hit on a steel ring would bounce out. The outside of the drawn circle should be the diameters shown above.
  • You may mix and match between Ferrara and Paper rings at different sizes.
  • Amazon ordering of Rings -
  • Whether using Ferrara or Paper targets the space inside the ring and outside the ring should be the same color, the only aim point of a different color should be the ring itself.

Rules:
This shoot is designed to be shot at a range of 20 yards. It consists of 6 ends total alternating Static and Timed. Static ends are all 6 arrows, un-timed. Timed ends are all 30 seconds, unlimited arrows. Archers begin by shooting a static end at the 12” ring (the nearest enemy) placed at a height of approximately 4’ from the ground. A contrasting backing should be used (for example, the rings can be hard to see when mounted on straw bales), however the space inside and outside of the ring should both be the same color, the only aim point is the color of the ring itself. The number of hits they successfully score in the ring determines both their score, and which ring they shoot at next, as follows:

  • 3 to 6 hits - shoot at the next smaller ring
  • 2 hits - shoot at the same ring
  • 0 to 1 hits - shoot at the next larger ring, or remain at the 12"(30cm) ring

Scoring:
For each end, you score the number of hits you have inside the ring, plus the ring bonus from the following table. You must hit inside the ring at least once to receive the ring bonus. Printable Scoresheet
Reminder - when using the paper rings, any arrow breaking the outside line is considered a MISS.

 Ring Size   Bonus
12" 0
10" 2
8" 4
6" 6
4" 8
2" 10

Example:

  • End 1: 12” ring, 5 hits: score = 5 + 0 bonus
  • End 2: 10” ring, 6 hits: score = 6 + 2 bonus
  • End 3: 8” ring, 2 hits: score = 2 + 4 bonus
  • End 4: 8” ring, 3 hits: score = 3 + 4 bonus
  • End 5: 6” ring, 0 hits: score = 0 + 0 bonus
  • End 6: 8” ring, 1 hit: score = 1 + 4 bonus
